The Advances in IT Personnel and Project Management (AITPPM) book series aims to provide current research on all facets of IT Project Management including factors to consider when managing and working with IT personnel. Books within the AITPPM book series will provide managers, IT professionals, business leaders, and upper-level students with the latest trends, applications, methodologies, and literature available in this field.

Introduction

The book will explore the relationship between project management and information and knowledge management, from theoretical and practical points of view, specially observing the context of projects that proposes innovations for firms and markets.

This relationship is critical nowadays, as the overall demand for innovation is becoming more critical for competitiveness and information and knowledge management – supported by all disciplines and organizational actions and features (as human resources, IT management, funding, etc.) – is playing a growing decisive role in this context

The interdisciplinary theory approach is still to be balanced, as these fields advanced in turbulent directions, so a book like this one can contribute for both a theoretical leverage as methodologically learning from study cases (“best practices”, case studies, and so forth).

This book will be structured in three major sections:

Section I – A market demand

This section will discuss how the market is demanding innovations and the gap between innovation management and project management. Chapters accepted would discuss cases, lack of theoretical background in decisions in competitive scenarios and market statistics analysis.

Section II – Theoretical background: searching for an interdisciplinary relationship

This section will evaluate the theoretical basis for project management, information and knowledge management and its perspectives of relationship as interdisciplinary propositions. Chapters accepted for this section will discuss theoretical issues, background formation, analytical modelling for PM + IM + KM to be applied in real situations, etc.

Section III – Case studies of PM + IM + KM

This final section would discuss real cases and competitive scenario analysis involving products, processes, industry cases, professional formation, marketing and strategy relationships, etc. Chapters accepted would promote case study analysis.
