The Social and Institutional Communication Research Group at the University of Girona is organizing the IV International Conference on Communication and Society. This conference has been titled “Education and Communication: Challenges and opportunities in diversity contexts”. The Conference will be held at the University of Girona between the 5th and the 6th November 2015.
The current economical, social and institutional crisis in a context of diversity, as it happens in our country, ask to the University to reflect the role they must play as an educational and research institution in the society that it belongs to.
On the other hand, contributing to the social debate and dialogue on social issues with a significant social impact, such as the role of media and its social responsibility in this crisis and diversity context is also a public demand at the university, that the Conference wants to answer.
We wish to raise the following questions that should be approached by the participants’ presentations and papers.
- In different educational contexts, how do we use the potential of media to approach diversity?
- What opportunities do educators have to develop productions in medias that provide a voice to minority groups?
- What are the educational responsibilities of the media when considering and respecting diversity? What are the opportunities and risks associated with using the various media?
Aims of the Conference
The objectives of this conference are:
- Disseminating scientific areas of Communication Sciences and Educational Sciences with emphasis on the perspective of cultural diversity.
- Reflecting on the potential of the media to work in different areas of diversity education.
- Contributing to the debate and social dialogue on the social impact and the role of socially responsible media as instruments of non-formal education in contexts of diversity.
- Initiating, consolidating and developing collaboration proposals with organizations outside the University of Girona.
Public and format of the Conference
The conference is addressed both to the academic audience (teachers, researchers and students) and to media, education and attention to diversity professionals.
The format of the conference includes two lectures, two thematic panel discussions and workshop space to share concerns and discuss proposals of common interest among educators and communicators.
